Owerri Widow, Cries Out As Late Husband’s Family Are Bent On Disinheriting Her For Lack Of Male Child

A widow, Mrs. Chinwe Ofordu who lost her husband 5 years ago, mother of three beautiful girls  has taken her lamentations to her Facebook page, eulogising his late husband vitures; while calling on his spirit to help fight his immediate family and siblings who are hell bent on disinheriting her and her children from the only building she built with the late husband at Owerri.

This ignoble treatment of widows are not only inequitable but unconstitutional; because there is no constitutional provision that a widow who does not have male child cannot inherit the husband estate through her daughters.

Again, any Customary law which supports such primitive and wicked practices is contrary to public policy, equity and good conscience ; as it cannot pass the validity test when tested in a judicial proceeding.

The widow is facing different legal actions in courts from the husband immediate family who insist on taking whatever belonged to their late son since the wife has no male child who is entitled to inherit under their customary law.

We call on all human rights organizations to help this widow get justice from the greedy family of his late husband. Above all, none should be disinherited for want of male child because our constitution does not condole discrimination of whatever guise.
