Outrage In Abeokuta As Ex-Convict ‘Rapes 12-Year-Old To Death’
Our correspondent gathered that the incident led to an outrage as angry youths stormed the suspect’s family house and set it ablaze.He reportedly committed the act at Fehintoluwa Community Development Association in Idiya, Abeokuta-North Local Government area of the state.The suspect landed himself in another trouble shortly after he had completed his jail term for assaulting a Point of Service operator in the community last year.Our correspondent gathered that Janet, who was a Junior Secondary School student at the Army Day Secondary School, Alamala, Abeokuta, was on her way back from where she had purchased soap to wash school uniform, when the suspect reportedly pounced on her and dragged her into his family house within the community.Sources said he tied the hapless girl’s hands, legs and covered her mouth before allegedly raped her to death .The suspect was reported to have dumped the dead body into another building beside his house and ran away.Miffed by the development, youths in the community stormed the house and set it ablaze .Father of the deceased, Sanjo Fakeye, demanded that the suspect be brought to book.“I gave her money to buy the detergent. As I gave her the money, I was sitting outside and after a while, I didn’t see her return from the place she went to buy the detergent. The place is not far from the house.“So, I went to check on her, I was told she had been attended to and had left the place. I became agitated. I later went to report at the police station around 8 p.m after we had searched and could not find her. As we were heading towards the police station, I received a call from the community that they had found the dead body of my daughter,” he narrated.He said the suspect dumped the girl’s body into another building beside his house after committing the offence.The Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the operatives have launched a search for the suspect.“It is true that we are looking for him . The suspect is an ex-convict who was just released from prison. He will soon be arrested and made to face justice,” Oyeyemi said.
