Customs Intercepts 3,851kg Of Cannabis Worth N308.8m, Arrest Two Suspects At FOU Zone ‘A’ (independent)
LAGOS – The Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS), has intercepted and handed over 3,851kg of cannabis sativa seized by the Unit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The illicit drugs valued at N308,080,000:00, with suspects were handed over to NDLEA in Lagos on Thursday.
Speaking at the handling over ceremony, the Acting Controller, FOU Zone, Hussein Keinde Ejibunu, said two suspects, Iruka Chita and Ebuka Mbamalu, who were arrested in connection with being in possession of the seized drugs were handed over along with the drugs to the NDLEA.
Ejibunu, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs(DC) said: “Consequent upon the arrest of the above mentioned suspects by FOU Strike Force Patrol Team and FOU Ogere/llaro interchange patrol team, a total of
3,851kg of Indian Hemp (Cannabis Sativa) was recovered.
“One Mr Ebuka Mbamalu was found in possession of 627.0kg of Cannabis Sativa and one Mr Iruka Chita was also arrested with 80 parcels of Cannabis Sativa
“The street value of the cannabis sativa is N308,080,000”.
Receiving the drugs and suspects, Yusuf A. Onuya, Deputy Commander, Operations and Intelligence, Lagos State Command of NDLEA, who represented Barr. Callys Alumona(CN), the State Commander, Lagos State Command of NDLEA, said: “What are doing now is as a result of collaboration and synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. As it stands, this will serve as a strong warning to the criminals that no matter how hard they tried to explore the routes of bringing in those illicit items, with our capacity and our capability, we are capable of frustrating their illegal businesses and destroying their illicit investment.
“I will want to thank you on behalf of my state commander, the Chairman and Chief Executive, NDLEA, for this synergy, in fighting the drug war, and preservation of our national security.”
