PEGASUS LEGAL

That the cry and demand for police reform is a matter of urgent public importance in Nigeria, is an understatement ; especially, since the #EndSARS protest that brought to the surface, all the high handedness and corruptions that characterize police operations in Nigeria.

Mr. Adedigba Sherriff left Abeokuta on his proposed journey to Lagos State, unknown to him that the rogues in uniform among the Nigerian police men will not let him travel without hindrance. He was arrested on trump up charges and was made to part with #153, 000.00 by the police men before he regained his freedom.

But the victim of the police extortion did not let the slight lie, as he took to the social media which caught the attention of the Ogun State police Commissioner, Mr. Edward Awolowo Ajogun who did not waste time in ordering that the suspects be identified, and brought to book.

Upon their arrest, the suspects were made to refund the money extorted from their victim.

They were arraigned on three count charges bordering on corrupt conducts, Discreditable conduct and disobedience to lawful order.

Sequel to the above directive, Inspector Sunday John, Sgt Jimoh Asimiya and Sgt Solomon Adedapo  were arrested and found guilty in an orderly room trial, where the victim testified as a witness. They were convicted and dismissed to serve as deterrence to others with such criminal instinct.

According to DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun State Police Command , PPRO, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of police, said that the victim was full of gratitude to the police, saying that the quiick response by the police authorities has rekindled his faith in the Force.

The spokes person went on to say that the State Police boss encouraged the populace to speak up and report promptly, various police shenanigans being perpetrated in the state ; as the force would no longer condone such degrading activities by few bad eggs in the force.
