Imo North Senatorial Election : Supreme Court Rules In Favour Of Senator Ibezim
The tussle over who is the eligible candidate to occupy the Imo North Senatorial Election, might have been led to rest as the Supreme Court today quashed the verdicts of the trial court and the Court of Appeal ; citing that it is a pre- election matter which becomes statue barred after the 14 days prescribed for such action by Section 285 of the 1999 Constitution as Amended.
The controversy on the Senator’s seat is as a result of questionable credentials which he submitted to the Electoral body in violation of the electoral Act and our extant laws.
As always, the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment sustained Ibezim’s Appeal, saying that it has merit since the lower courts verdicts purporting to sack him has no force of law. This is due to the fact that that it was instituted after 14 days prescribed by the Constitution for pre-election matters.
